Jay Rath passed into show biz legend when he put on the costume of Skating Bart Simpson to promote the Ice Capades. Despite this rich entertainment legacy, he's perhaps better known as a humorist working a broad range of media, including cartooning, animation, theater, indie film and journalism.
Rath has served as a longtime staffer and creative consultant at The Onion. Other credits include Disney, DC Comics, MAD magazine, Fantagraphics, MTV and the anime series "Astroboy." He cofounded The Radio Pirates comedy troupe, creating three comedy-variety series, a quiz show for New York public radio, and dozens of comedy sketches broadcast nationwide. Rath also directed the world premiere of Orson Welles' only play, "Bright Lucifer."
For more than a decade he taught cartooning, animation and entertainment history at the University of Wisconsin, and jointly organized its Technology in the Arts program. He serves as president of Millenium Theater.
